Turner Drive, Westwood Avenue, Hawthorn Avenue, Scholfield Avenue and Stretford Road, Urmston - Proposed Waiting Restrictions

Decision Maker: Corporate Director Place

Decision status: Recommendations Approved

Is Key decision?: No

Is subject to call in?: No

Purpose:

Over the last year, the Council has received several requests for consideration to be given to introduce waiting restrictions at the junctions of Turner Drive/Stretford Road, Westwood Avenue/Stretford Road and Hawthorn Avenue/Stretford Road, Urmston. Residents have expressed concerns regarding inconsiderate parking which reduces visibility for vehicles exiting the cul-de-sacs onto Stretford Road.  Furthermore, there are reported obstruction issues due to double parking on the junctions of these narrow roads.

Following investigations by Traffic Engineers, an informal consultation exercise proposing waiting restrictions was carried out with frontages in the immediate locality. The introduction of ‘No waiting at any time’ restrictions at the abovementioned junctions and the junction of Scholfield Avenue/Stretford Road is now formally proposed to promote driver visibility and deter obstructive parking.

Decision:

1)     That authorisation be given to advertise the intention to introduce the Traffic Regulation Order as detailed in the schedule to the report and illustrated on drawing E9018-01-F and that, if no objections are maintained, the Order be made and implemented in whole or in part, as soon as is practicable.

2)     That any objections maintained be reported back for consideration.

Reasons for the decision:

To deter inconsiderate parking and improve road safety.

Alternative options considered:

None.

Interests and Nature of Interests Declared:
