Wythenshawe Road Area, Sale - Proposed No Waiting At Any Time Restrictions

Decision Maker: Corporate Director Place

Decision status: Recommendations Approved

Is Key decision?: No

Is subject to call in?: No

Purpose:

The Council has been contacted by residents and Ward Members who have requested that consideration be given to the introduction of a ‘No Waiting At Any Time’ restriction (double yellow lines) in the form of junction protection in the Wythenshawe Road Area.

Wythenshawe Road at its junctions with Northenden Road, Worthington Road and Rutland Lane is experiencing high levels of parking demand from parents/guardians of pupils at schools in this locality.

The proposal seeks to introduce a ‘No Waiting At Any Time’ restriction in the form of junction protection at the above locations to deter the reported parking issues and to improve access and visibility for all road users. This will also facilitate a new pedestrian refuge island that has recently been installed on Wythenshawe Road.

Decision:

1.     That authorisation be given to advertise the intention to introduce the Traffic Regulation Order as detailed in the Schedule to the report and that, if no objections are maintained, the Order be made and implemented in whole or in part, as soon as is practicable.

2.     That any objections maintained be reported back for consideration.

Reasons for the decision:

Introducing the proposed ‘Waiting Restrictions’ on the sections of road identified in the report and shown on drawing number CO00201302-01-D Rev 1 will ensure traffic can flow freely along these residential roads and maintain access for essential service vehicles, i.e. refuse vehicles.

Alternative options considered:

The proposals were subject to an informal consultation with frontages. Following consideration of the comments received, the restriction extents were reduced at the Wythenshawe Road / Worthington Road junction and extended at the Wythenshawe Road / Northenden Road junction, where a pedestrian refuge has now been installed, to potentially avoid objections to the scheme being received.

Interests and Nature of Interests Declared:

None.
