Derbyshire Lane, Stretford - Proposed Waiting Restrictions

Decision Maker: Corporate Director Place

Decision status: Recommendations Approved

Is Key decision?: No

Is subject to call in?: No

Purpose:

Problems caused by on-street parking on Derbyshire Lane at its junction with the A56 Chester Road, Stretford have been the subject of complaints made by residents to the Council.

Decision:

1.    That authorisation be given to advertise the intention to introduce the Traffic Regulation Order, as detailed in the Schedule to the report and that, if no objections are maintained, the Order be made and implemented in whole or in part, as soon as is practicable.

2.     That any objections maintained be reported back for consideration.

Reasons for the decision:

The Council has been contacted by a resident concerned with road safety on Derbyshire Lane at its junction with the A56 Chester Road. Vehicles park on both sides of the road and footway, often blocking pedestrian access. The parking also creates a bottleneck and damage is often caused to parked vehicles.

The proposal seeks to introduce a length of ‘No Waiting Monday-Saturday 8.00 a.m.–6.00 p.m.’ restrictions on the north side of Derbyshire Lane, to deter parking, to improve pedestrian access and visibility and road safety for all road users. The short length of existing ‘No Waiting At Any Time and No Loading Monday-Saturday 7.30 a.m.-9.30 a.m. and 4.00 p.m.-6.30 p.m.’ restrictions that are missing from the southwest corner of the junction are to be reinstated.

Alternative options considered:

The alternative to do nothing would mean that the safety and access issues remain.

Interests and Nature of Interests Declared:

None.
