The Council introduced a temporary Prohibition of Driving on Oldfield Lane, Altrincham through the Government’s Emergency Active Travel Scheme Programme, in response to the Covid-19 pandemic to promote walking and cycling. A local consultation has been undertaken to seek views on retaining the closure on a permanent basis.
It is proposed to retain the closure on a permanent basis and insert a second closure point at the south western end of Oldfield Lane to make the closure more apparent to motorists. The closure would continue to allow pedestrians and cyclists access along the road and enable access to adjacent fields and to enable highway maintenance.
1. That authorisation be given to advertise the intention to introduce the Traffic Regulation Order, as detailed in the Schedule to the report and that, if no objections are maintained, the Order be made and implemented in whole or in part, as soon as is practicable.
2. That any objections maintained be reported back for consideration.

The decision follows a public consultation where the majority (98% of those consulted) supported the retention of the Prohibition of Driving. The alternative option to remove the road closure was only supported by 2 out of 86 consultation responses (2%).
