Due to certain concerns relating to passenger service vehicle access, it is proposed to improve and formalise bus stops at the northern end of Derbyshire Road South. The proposals will improve bus manoeuvring space and accessibility for passengers boarding and alighting.

1.     That the introduction of ‘No waiting at any time’ parking restrictions on Derbyshire Road South and Marsland Road, as detailed on drawing number CO00201302-05-C-01B, be approved.

2.     That formal consultation be carried out with nearby residents at each location and that any objections maintained be reported back for consideration.

3.     That authorisation be given to advertise the intention to introduce the Traffic Regulation Order as detailed in the Schedules to the report, and that if no objections are maintained, the Order be made and implemented in whole or in part.

Introducing the proposed ‘Waiting Restrictions’ on the sections of road identified in this report and shown on drawing number CO00201302-05-C-01B will improve bus manoeuvring space and accessibility for passengers boarding and alighting and road safety for all road users.  

The proposals were subject to an informal consultation with frontages. A single response was received to request if the bus stops on Derbyshire Road South could be re-sited or shortened, or if limited waiting bays could be introduced. However, relocating or shortening the bus stops is problematic, as they are well used and the full 19 metres is necessary to allow suitable manoeuvring space for buses. Limited waiting bays are often unpopular with residents and would not solve the issue of buses not being able to access the bus stop. It is considered that the scheme proposed is the most appropriate to solve the problems of access and manoeuvrability for buses.
