Re-establish Cycle Lanes on Stockport Road, Altrincham

We the undersigned petition the Council to Re-instate the cycles lanes which have been removed as part of the resurfacing of Stockport Road in Altrincham.

During September and October 2019 Stockport Road in Altrincham has been resurfaced. As part of this work Trafford Council decided to remove the cycle lanes.

This petition calls for cycle lanes to be re-instated as discussed prior to the resurfacing at the Trafford Cycle Forum: Instead of the previous 1 metre cycle lane either side there should be a 2 metre segregated cycle lane on the north side where there are houses and on the south side, the Golf Club side, there should be a shared use path utilising the existing pavement.

This cycle path will then link up with the cycle path on Shaftesbury Avenue to provide a continuous safe cycle route between Altrincham and the Trafford boundary at Brooklands.

There was a tragic accident on this road in 2017 when a local cyclist was killed. We would like the cycleway to be named in memory of this cyclist, as this segregated cycleway is the only thing that would probably have saved the cyclist’s life.
