Furness Road 20MPH

We the undersigned petition the Council to Reduce the speed limit on Furness Road to 20mph

Traffic speed is a dangerous feature of this stretch of road. Furness Road is regularly used as a “rat run” for traffic avoiding the congestion on Canterbury Road and to cut through onto Westminster Road. The speed limit for the road is 30mph and the police threshold for enforcement action is 37mph. There is a Primary School located on Canterbury Road that backs onto Furness Road. At speeds in excess of 30mph a child will be lucky to survive a collision. At below 20mph, they would have good chance of survival. Many other primary schools and residential streets across Trafford benefit from 20mph zones. Over half of the 40 largest urban authorities have adopted 20mph as the default speed limit for residential streets – including Manchester and Liverpool.
