Purpose of committee

Overview of Standards Committee

The Standards Committee promotes and maintains high standards of conduct within the Council and deals with any complaints that councillors or co-opted members have breached the Code of Conduct for Members.

The Committee consists of eleven councillors and five non-voting co-optees, two of whom are to be parish representatives and three of whom are to be independent members.

The non-voting co-optees on this Committee are as follows:-

Parish representatives: Councillor Mr A Rudden and one vacancy.

Independent Members: Mr. D. Goodman, Mr R. Brown and Mr. C. Griffiths.

If the Council considers an investigation into an allegation is warranted it must appoint at least one independent person whose views must be sought after it has investigated the allegation and before it makes its decision.

The Council, therefore, has appointed Ms. Nicole Jackson and Mr. Michael Whiting following advertisement, as independent persons under Section 28 of the Localism Act 2011.
